Classical astrologers noted that the twelfth is the house where Saturn has his joy, so a fiery malefic ruling Saturn's place of rejoicing drew sober judgment, softened when Mars held the sect in favor by night. Modern reading discards the carceral language, treating an Aries twelfth as unconscious drive, hidden reserves of will awaiting deliberate expression.
