Leo 2nd decan

10° - 20°·Subruled by Sagittarius

Decan ruler

Second decan of Leo (10°–20°). Subruled by Sagittarius - blends Leo's fire nature with Sagittarius's qualities.

Traditional reading

Sagittarius subrules the middle decan of Leo in the modern triplicity method, adding Jupiter's reach to solar fire. Between 10 and 20 degrees the archetype is described as expansive rather than merely radiant: confidence becomes advocacy, and the Leo need to be seen becomes a need to inspire. Portraits in the literature feature philosophical or moral conviction expressed with showmanship, generosity extended to strangers and causes rather than only to the court of intimates, and a restlessness unusual for a fixed sign, with travel, teaching and publishing recurring as favored stages. Humor tends broader and self-mockery easier than in the first decan.

Jupiter also rules this face in the Chaldean order, a rare full agreement between the classical and modern schemes. Medieval dignity tables list Jupiter in the second face of Leo, with traditional imagery of triumph and public benefit drawn from the Picatrix lineage. Astrologers of that era counted a planet in its own face as possessing the least of the essential dignities, but agreement across systems was sometimes noted as reinforcing a decan's tone, here read as magnanimous fire.

Leo archetype

Leo is the sole domicile of the Sun. Fixed fire, traditionally tied to sovereignty and visible display.

Sagittarius subruler archetype

Sagittarius is the diurnal domicile of Jupiter. Mutable fire, traditionally tied to long-distance travel and the philosophical reach.

Other Leo decans

This is cultural and astronomical reference, not personal prediction or advice.

The triplicity decan system assigns each decan a subruler from the sign's element triplicity, in zodiacal order. This is the modern Western convention; classical Hellenistic decan assignments (Chaldean order) differ. See methodology.
