Libra 3rd decan

20° - 30°·Subruled by Gemini

Decan ruler

Third decan of Libra (20°–30°). Subruled by Gemini - blends Libra's air nature with Gemini's qualities.

Traditional reading

Modern triplicity sources assign the final decan of Libra, twenty to thirty degrees, to Gemini under Mercury, completing the circuit of air signs. Descriptions of this band emphasize a talkative, mentally quick inflection of the Libran temperament: the drive for harmony expresses itself through language, mediation, and the framing of arguments; social grace comes with wit and curiosity; and the cardinal initiative of the sign turns toward correspondence, ideas, and the brokering of introductions. Writers often characterize it as the most versatile and least sentimental face of the scales.

By contrast, the Chaldean order places Jupiter over these degrees, and medieval astrologers listed Jupiter as the face ruler of the third decan of Libra in their dignity tables. That lineage descends from the Egyptian decans, thirty-six star-groups that marked the hours of the night and entered Hellenistic astrology as minor dignities called faces. Under the Jupiterian reading, older texts gave this band a magnanimous, almost judicial flavor, closer to the courtroom than to the salon. The divergence between Mercurial agility and Jovian gravity illustrates how differently the two decan traditions can color the same ten degrees.

Libra archetype

Libra is the diurnal domicile of Venus and exaltation of Saturn. Cardinal air, traditionally tied to weighing and judgment.

Gemini subruler archetype

Gemini is the diurnal domicile of Mercury. Mutable air, traditionally tied to exchange and pairing.

Other Libra decans

This is cultural and astronomical reference, not personal prediction or advice.

The triplicity decan system assigns each decan a subruler from the sign's element triplicity, in zodiacal order. This is the modern Western convention; classical Hellenistic decan assignments (Chaldean order) differ. See methodology.
