Moon Conjunction Saturn

0° · major aspect · neutral · default orb ±8°

Where the Moon signifies body, mother, and the flow of common life, Saturn signifies restraint, time, and the weight of structure, and classical sources read their conjunction as heaviness laid upon what fluctuates. The literature ties the pair to delay in domestic matters, to duty toward mothers and elders, to careers among the old, the land, and long undertakings, and in medical astrology to cold, obstruction, and melancholic humors settling in the body. Ptolemy's cold, dry Saturn chills the moist lunar nature, so the mixture is judged sober, retentive, and slow.

Traditional reading

The two rule opposite signs, Cancer and Capricorn, each planet in detriment in the other's home, an axis of mutual estrangement the medieval authors cite when judging this pair. Sect divides them as well, Saturn diurnal and the Moon nocturnal, so one of the two always stands contrary to the chart's sect; Hellenistic doctrine reads a night-chart Moon bound to the out-of-sect malefic as the harder case. The Moon applies, and her monthly separation from Saturn was watched in horary for burdens concluded.

Classical reading

Ptolemy treats conjunction as bodies sharing the same degree. Nature depends on the joined planets - benefic with Jupiter, malefic with Mars or Saturn.

Modern reading

Modern reading: fusion of two principles. The combined energies act as one unit, for better or worse depending on the bodies involved.
