♀ Venus △ Trine ♄ Saturn
120° · major aspect · harmonious · default orb ±7°
A trine between Venus and Saturn sets the planet of affection and pleasure in accord with the planet of restraint and time, both cast from one element, an angle the tradition reads as steadying rather than depriving. Where a hard contact is called cold or withholding to love, classical sources treat the trine as lending Venus's warmth constancy, loyalty, and durable form, Saturn's discipline giving structure to pleasure and art. Older texts tie the pair to lasting commitment, faithful attachment, and craftsmanship in the Venusian arts. The combination is associated with sober taste, enduring bonds, and beauty disciplined into permanence.
Traditional reading
The pair crosses sect, Saturn belonging to the day and Venus to the night, so authors read the trine as tempering Saturn's coldness, which is worst when he is out of sect. Venus, much the faster, applies to Saturn and forms the figure. Reception is notable where Venus occupies Capricorn or Aquarius, Saturn's houses, or Saturn sits in Libra, where he is exalted and in Venus's domicile at once, a placement the tradition read favorably. Older authors held that Saturn preserves what Venus signifies; the trine renders their meeting constant rather than austere.
Classical reading
Ptolemy classifies the trine as one of the harmonious aspects, formed by signs of the same triplicity (element). Considered fortunate.
Modern reading
Modern reading: effortless flow between two principles. Often described as flowing, supportive, sometimes complacent.
