Mars sign calculator
Enter your birth date and city. A birth time is rarely needed for Mars; if Mars changed signs on your birthday, you will see when.
How this calculator works
Mars's geocentric ecliptic longitude is computed with Astronomy Engine. Without a birth time, the calculator checks your whole birth date in your local time zone and finds any sign change to within a minute.
For Mars together with the other planets, houses, and aspects, use the birth chart calculator.
Questions
- How long does Mars stay in one sign?
- About six to seven weeks on average. Mars turns retrograde about every 26 months, and around those periods it can stay in one sign for six months or more.
- Do I need my birth time for my Mars sign?
- Very rarely. Mars moves less than one degree a day, so it changes sign on only a few days a year. If you were born on one of them, this calculator shows the local time of the change and the sign before and after it.
- Is the Mars sign the same in Vedic astrology?
- Not always. This calculator uses the Western (tropical) zodiac. The Vedic (sidereal) zodiac sits about 24 degrees behind, so a Vedic Mars sign is often one sign earlier.
- Is my birth data saved anywhere?
- No. The sign is computed by JavaScript in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The page link keeps your date and place so you can come back to the result, so share that link only with people you would tell your birthday to.
