How dates are rated
Each date is checked at local noon. Venus retrograde or a date within three days of an eclipse marks it Avoid. Otherwise it scores one point each for a waxing Moon, the Moon in Taurus or Cancer, and Venus in Taurus, Libra or Pisces, and loses one point each for Mercury retrograde, the Moon in Scorpio or Capricorn, Venus in Scorpio, Aries or Virgo, and a Moon that is void of course for the whole 10:00 to 22:00 window. Two points or more is Strong, one is Good, zero or less is Mixed.
Positions come from Astronomy Engine (VSOP87), the same code as the birth chart calculator. Void-of-course times follow the void-of-course Moon calendar, and to compare two people use the synastry calculator.

- Venus is not retrograde at any point in 2027. Mercury is retrograde Feb 9 to Mar 3, Jun 10 to Jul 4, Oct 7 to Oct 28. There are 5 eclipses: solar on Feb 6, lunar on Feb 20, lunar on Jul 18, solar on Aug 2, lunar on Aug 17. Traditional electional astrology avoids Venus retrograde and the days around eclipses for weddings, so the rest of the year is open.
- What makes a good wedding date in astrology?
- Traditional electional astrology looks for a waxing Moon (growing toward full), the Moon in a sign where it is strong (Taurus or Cancer), Venus in a sign where it is strong (Taurus, Libra or Pisces), and no Venus or Mercury retrograde. It avoids the days around an eclipse and the hours when the Moon is void of course. This calculator scores each date on exactly those points and shows them.
- What does a void-of-course Moon mean for a wedding?
- The Moon is void of course from its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. Electional tradition avoids starting things in that window. It usually lasts a few hours, so the calculator shows the hours to avoid between 10:00 and 22:00 rather than ruling out the whole day.
- Do we need our birth charts?
- No. This calculator rates the sky on each date for everyone. To compare two people's charts, use the synastry calculator.
- Can astrology decide whether a marriage will work?
- No. Electional astrology is a historical tradition for choosing a moment, not a demonstrated way to predict outcomes. Treat a rating as one input among the practical ones: the venue, the people and the budget.
