Virgo on the 2nd house cusp
earth · mutable · ruled by Mercury
Virgo on the second cusp sets mutable earth over livelihood, and traditional sources read gain through craft, calculation, and service, the Mercurial trades of accounting, medicine, scribework, and skilled labor filling the older lists. Income in this picture is earned exactly and tracked exactly, ledgers kept as carefully as tools, with expenditure examined before it is permitted. Movable goods tend toward the useful and the maintained, possessions serving function, and classical writers noted profit gathered in small, repeated measures, the harvest style of the sign.
Traditional reading
Mercury holds lordship of substance here with unusual strength, since Virgo is both his domicile and his exaltation, and classical doctrine counted a dignified ruler of the second among the surest marks of stable provision. His condition, phase, and aspects were still weighed, the sect-neutral planet taking the color of what configures him. The Gate of Hades offers no planetary joy, leaving the ruler's testimony decisive. Modern practitioners read the combination as budgeting precision and earning through analysis, and sometimes as anxiety over sufficiency, where the older sources spoke plainly of gain by skill and reckoning.

House-cusp sign assignments depend on the chosen house system and on the chart's birth time and latitude. Whole-Sign astrology collapses cusps to sign boundaries; Placidus and other quadrant systems compute intermediate cusps. See methodology.
