How is Ceres's position calculated?

From the Swiss Ephemeris asteroid files, body number 17. That is a real astronomical ephemeris, so the position itself is as precise as any planet's - the uncertainty in an asteroid reading is entirely in the interpretation, not in the number.

When was Ceres discovered?

1801, by Giuseppe Piazzi, from Palermo. That is the reason Ceres appears in no classical text: the whole classical corpus was written before any of the main-belt bodies were known. Ceres was announced as a planet, demoted when the belt turned out to be crowded, and reclassified again as a dwarf planet in 2006 - three different categories for one unchanged object.

Is Ceres part of traditional astrology?

No. With an 1801 discovery it postdates the entire classical corpus, and its astrological use dates to the late 20th century, mainly through Demetra George's work on the asteroid goddesses. Practically, that means two things: the nurture attribution has a far shorter track record than any planetary rulership, and most sources tighten the orb well below planetary values - often 1 to 2 degrees - so that a contested body cannot add aspects to a chart at a wide orb.
