Lilly reads such unions as promising ease and public goodwill, and the medieval authors assign them to peacemakers, patrons of the arts, and prosperity arriving through alliance rather than labor. Grace enlarged by increase is the tradition's shorthand.
Traditional reading
Sect divides the benefics between the teams, Venus serving the night and Jupiter the day, so one of the two is always the benefic of sect, a structural guarantee Hellenistic doctrine notices: every chart holds at least one of this pair in its proper element of time. Venus, the swifter, applies. Reception appears in Pisces above all, Jupiter's domicile and Venus's exaltation, where the conjunction doubles its dignity and the older texts judge it strongest, each planet welcoming the other from a position of honor.
Classical reading
Ptolemy treats conjunction as bodies sharing the same degree. Nature depends on the joined planets - benefic with Jupiter, malefic with Mars or Saturn.
