A sextile between the two classical benefics carries some of the most consistently favorable testimony in the older literature. Venus signifies affection, beauty, and concord; Jupiter signifies increase, faith, and patronage; William Lilly and the medieval sources before him read their harmonious configurations as promising friendship, advantageous marriage, wealth gained pleasantly, and the favor of the great. The sextile, gentler than the trine, is described as opportunity through sociability rather than effortless bounty. Documented domains include festivity, the arts under patronage, reconciliation, generosity, and religious or philosophical communities bound by warmth rather than discipline.
Traditional reading
Sect divides the benefics neatly: Jupiter leads the diurnal team while Venus serves the nocturnal, so whichever sect a chart belongs to, one of the pair is in its element, a symmetry Hellenistic authors valued. Venus is the faster planet and therefore applies to Jupiter. There is a rulership sympathy as well, since Venus is exalted in Pisces, one of Jupiter's domiciles, giving a channel of reception. Modern practitioners keep the benevolent reading but add a caution absent from the old texts, that ease of this kind can shade into indulgence.

Ptolemy classifies the sextile as a minor harmonious aspect, formed by signs of compatible polarity (both masculine or both feminine).
