North node calculator

Enter your birth date. The node changes sign only every year and a half or so, so a birth time is almost never needed.

Birth data

Your birth data stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to the server.

How this calculator works

The calculator uses the mean lunar node from the series in Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms. The South node is always the opposite sign. If the node changed signs on your birth date, you will see the local time.

For the house your node falls in, open the birth chart calculator with your birth time.

Questions

Is this the mean node or the true node?
The mean node, from the standard series in Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms, the same value the birth chart on this site uses. The true node wobbles around the mean by up to about a degree and a half, so the two only give different signs when the node sat right at a sign edge.
Do I need my birth time for my North node sign?
Almost never. The node moves backward through the zodiac about 19 degrees a year and stays in each sign for about 18 to 19 months, so everyone born within the same stretch of a year or more shares it. The birth time only matters for the house, which needs the full birth chart.
What is the South node?
The point exactly opposite the North node. It is always in the opposite sign, so the calculator shows it next to the North node instead of computing it separately.
Is my birth data saved anywhere?
No. The sign is computed by JavaScript in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The page link keeps your date and place so you can come back to the result, so share that link only with people you would tell your birthday to.
