Jupiter sign calculator
Enter your birth date. You will get your Jupiter sign and whether Jupiter was retrograde at your birth. A birth time and city are optional.
How this calculator works
The calculator returns Jupiter's tropical sign at your birth minute, or across your whole birth date if you leave the time out. It reports retrograde when Jupiter's longitude was decreasing at that moment.
Positions come from Astronomy Engine (VSOP87), the same code that drives the birth chart calculator.
Questions
- How long does Jupiter stay in one sign?
- About a year. Jupiter goes around the zodiac in 11.9 years, but its retrograde loops stretch or shorten a single stay to anywhere from roughly 10 to 14 months, and some years it dips back into the previous sign for a few weeks. Everyone born in the same year or so shares a Jupiter sign.
- Do I need my birth time?
- No, almost never. Jupiter moves at most about a quarter of a degree a day, so it changes sign on only a handful of days each decade. If it changed on your birth date, the calculator shows the local time of the change. The house Jupiter falls in does need a birth time and the full birth chart.
- What does Jupiter retrograde at birth mean?
- Jupiter looked like it was moving backward against the stars when you were born, an optical effect of Earth overtaking it. Jupiter is retrograde about four months of every year, so it is a common placement. The calculator tells you whether it was retrograde at your birth.
- Is my birth data saved anywhere?
- No. The sign is computed by JavaScript in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The page link keeps your date and place so you can come back to the result, so share that link only with people you would tell your birthday to.
