How this calculator works

The calculator returns Chiron's tropical sign at your birth minute, or across your whole birth date if you leave the time out. Chiron is not in the planetary theory the other calculators use, so this page loads the Swiss Ephemeris asteroid file in your browser, the same file behind the asteroid calculator.

For what Chiron means in a chart, see the Chiron reference page.

Questions

How is Chiron calculated here?
Chiron is a small body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, discovered by Charles Kowal in 1977. Its position comes from the Swiss Ephemeris asteroid file, the same source most astrology software uses, computed in your browser. The file covers births from 1800 to 2400.
Why do some generations share a Chiron sign for years?
Chiron's orbit is very elongated. It takes about 50 years to go around the zodiac, but it crosses Virgo and Libra in under two years each and spends seven to eight years each in Pisces and Aries. People born across a whole decade can share a Chiron sign.
Do I need my birth time?
No. Chiron moves less than a tenth of a degree a day, so a birth date settles the sign. If it changed signs on your birth date, the calculator shows the local time of the change. The house Chiron falls in needs a birth time and the full birth chart.
Is my birth data saved anywhere?
No. The sign is computed by JavaScript in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The page link keeps your date and place so you can come back to the result, so share that link only with people you would tell your birthday to.
